Testimonials

Dr Michelle Guppy

Madeleine taught piano to my son Max from the tiny age of 6 until his completion of HSC music in year 12, and achievement of his Certificate of Performance (CMus). She saw his musicality and potential from that very young age and was constantly encouraging of him over 12 years of lessons.

Madeleine is a generous teacher with a wealth of knowledge and experience in piano and musicianship. She is holistically interested in her students and always thoughtful towards Max’s other interests (computer coding) and his sense of humour. She always encouraged Max to do his best, and taught him an extensive repertoire of music. We would highly recommend her as a piano teacher.

Madeleine Lawrence is an outstanding pianist and teacher who taught our son Patrick through to the AMusA, which he achieved when he was in Year 12. Patrick always enjoyed piano lessons, and responded well to Madeleine’s kindness, patience and thoughtfulness, and her genuine interest in him and commitment to his development as a musician. We recommend her without reservation.

Emma Dauparas – Student

Ms Lawrence has been the best piano teacher I have ever had. She is always kind, gentle and nurturing in our lessons and she makes me want to play the piano. I always look forward to our lessons because they are really enjoyable, relaxing and engaging. The techniques that she has taught me over the past two years have all proved very beneficial and she always makes sure to clearly demonstrate and explain anything new I am learning. I have absolutely loved studying the piano under Ms Lawrence and would highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone, beginner or advanced, as a serious student or just for enjoyment as she takes care to teach all her students to the best of her ability and always puts in maximum effort in lessons.

Nicole Mackson - Music Teacher and Parent

It seems like many years ago that I approached Madeleine about teaching piano to my son Will. He was 5 at the time and while a bit young to be starting formal lessons, she accepted the challenge.

Over the years many people have asked me why I haven't taught my own son. I have always replied that from the first day Madeleine understood his sense of humour and style of learning. She insisted on correct technique and attention to detail in each piece of music Will learnt. She fostered discussion about the repertoire he played and encouraged him to prepare them to a high performance standard. Madeleine has always been gentle but firm with Will. This is exactly what he needed.

After 10 years of lessons, earlier this year (2019) Madeleine felt it was time for Will to learn from someone else. Will was pretty devastated but Madeleine could see that he wasn't particularly motivated. In hindsight, this was a very wise decision. I'll be forever grateful to Madeleine for inspiring and supporting Will with all of his musical endeavours. Learning piano from her has really shaped who he is.
